Jamaica has it’s own money currency in Jamaican Dollars.
The Jamaican Money or the Money in Jamaica has pictures of Jamaica’s National Hero and former Jamaica’s Prime Minister. The money also shows picture of Jamaica’s infrastructure along with pictures of Jamaica’s “Coat of Arms.” Jamaica Money fluctuates in value based on the exchange rates with currencies from other countries (ex: US, Canadian, UK and Euro). The Jamaican dollar came into existence in 1969. Jamaica gain independence from the British in 1962 and they converted from the British Pound to Jamaican Dollars.Visitors to Jamaica can exchange their money in banks or with several authorized money exchange vendors. Most store owners are ready to calculate the exchange rate as they sell their goods and products.
Shopping in Jamaica
Shopping is always fun for tourist and visitors because their money goes a long way. For example, throughout 2013, US $1 has been equal to JA $100. Whereas in 2016 the money in continues to loose it’s value. Jamaica money to American money value is to the point where one US dollar when exchange in Jamaica has gone up to as much as one hundred-twenty Jamaican Dollar. The Jamaican currency exchange rate for the British pound has been closer to two hundred Jamaican dollar. So naturally, visitors enjoy shopping in Jamaica because you can buy more for your buck (money). But until the government figure out how to make Jamaica money stronger, visitors will have more to spend.
In fact, several Jamaican dollars were changed to coins because the Jamaican Dollars lost it’s value. For example, Jamaica saw it’s $1, $5, $10 and $20 dollar bills all change to coins. These coins all had the Jamaica “Coat of Arms” on there Reverse side and former Jamaica Prime Minister and National Heroes on the other side. The list below are the coins in Jamaica.

Where in Jamaica are. The $20 made ?
Hi Reneica, thx for the visit. According to the Bank of Jamaica, “The British Royal Mint is responsible for minting Jamaica’s circulating Coins.” They are headquarters in Llantrisant, South Wales. Whereas, De La Rue Currency Ltd. in England has printed bank notes used in Jamaica since 1920.
i need to know if the roads that are shown on the back of the five thousand dollar bill, are roads in Jamaica. i am very young and have not yet traveled Jamaica and am not a fan of Jamaican TV or news. Please Respond as soon as you can.
Hey Nicolas, Yes, the roads on the back of Jamaica’s $5000 note is an aerial view of Highway 2000 which leads into Kingston. Highway 2000 is a toll road and the toll can be as little as J$90 or as much as J$990 based on where you are going and what you are driving/riding. On the back of the note is also blossoms of the Frangipani Flowers. Thanks for the visit
I forgot who was on the twenty dollar Bill. Could you be so kind to remind me please. Thank you
Hi Nichole,
Marcus Mosiah Garvey is the face on Jamaica’s $20.
Thank you.
I find this site very informative.? ? ? ? ?
Hi Christine,
Thanks for the visit, check out my FB. This may be of Interest to you… Once up on a time in Jamaica when the economy was good, Jamaica had a Fifty-cent Bill, a One-dollar Bill, Two-dollar Bill, Five-dollar Bill and a Ten-dollar Bill. Then the monies lost there vales for combination of reasons and were all change into coins.
I have a 2 dollar bill from Jamaica the # ED537999, is it with more than 2 dollars????
Hey Landra,
Because the Jamaican currency has devalued, the $2 Bill’s worth is about the same. The good new is, Jamaica no longer have the $2 as a Bill, it’s now as a coin. So, there is always that person who would love to have and maybe willing to pay more just to have it. Best of luck and thanks for the visit.
In the past 2 yrs. I spent $29,000. Via western union to a jamaican family. How much is that in jamaican dollars?
Kayne, that is priceless. Honor & Respect….
Fairly insightful publish. Never believed that it was this simple after all. I had spent a great deal of my time looking for someone to explain this topic clearly and you’re the only one that ever did that. Kudos to you! Keep it up
How do they change there economy and currency?
Hey Pascal, I’m not sure what’s your question.
