Gramps Morgan the Businessman, you may know him as one of the Royal Family of Reggae music, hailing from a musical family, the famous reggae group Morgan Heritage. One could say by night he is touring the world and performing with his brothers and sister of “Morgan Heritage.” Yet by day Roy “Gramps” Morgan known to all as Gramps is the businessman that is looking to diversify his investment and capitalize in this global economy that’s changing daily.

Recently, Mr. Morgan was in Jamaica and joined Minister of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining, Hon. Phillip Paulwell at the University of Technology Medical Marijuana Integration Day at the Papine campus in St. Andrew. During his visit, Gramps was asked to share his vision on medical ganja/weed and the future as it relates to Jamaica now that weed in Jamaica is decriminalized.

Gramps states that while there are a number of medical benefits in weed, “my primary focus is the business aspect of weed and the type of products that can be made with the plant.” While Mr. Morgan was not ready to share his ideas with the world, he states that “There is endless business opportunity and I’m a business man.” Gramps went on to say that, “Most people were surprised to know that even though I grew up in the Rastafarian Culture, I do not smoke weed.”

Farming is nothing new to Gramps who is looking to become one of the largest exporters of scotch bonnet peppers. Mr. Morgan who has over thirty acres of scotch bonnet peppers farm along with his onions farm is also looking to add ginger to his crop. Gramps believe opportunity is always knocking, as he considers himself “Jack of Most Trades.” So whether it’s Gramps the Radio Host, from the “Gramps Morgan Show”, Gramps the American Football standout former player, Gramps the farmer, Gramps the Producer who is involved in his son Jemere musical career also has his own label, Dada Son Record. Then there is Gramps the artist, who took some time from the group and launches a solo career and produces two albums before returning to the group.

If there is one thing I have learned from speaking with Mr. Roy “Gramps” Morgan is that, Gramps Morgan the businessman is a visionary when it comes to been diversified in his investment. Gramps is always looking at the upside of business and he is ready to open the door when opportunity knocks.
