Roots, Reggae Summer Jam
Roots conscious foundation reggae band Israel Vibration was rocking & scanking (dancing) away in Central Park NYC. The Roots, Reggae Summer Jam took place on Sunday August 19, 2012 in celebration of Jamaica’s 50th Anniversary. Thousands of their closest friends turned out to join in the celebration of the Reggae Concert. It’s always fasicinating to see the many cultures across the world who are fans of Reggae Music.
The fans were in for a treat as lead singers Cecil Spence (Skelly) and Lascelle Bulgin (Wiss) had the fans in awe. They sang “Borrowed Time”, “Back Stabber” and their big hit “Same Song” to name a few. Right after the concert Skelly further extended himself by granting me (Maxie D) an interview, then joining WB Radio with host Clement Hume aka Ras Clem for a live interview. We say, thank you sir and blessed love every time. When it comes to Skelly and Wiss excuses are not a part of their vocabulary. The international singers all overcame childhood polio. The trio group with Albert “Apple Gabriel” Craig originally met as children at Mona rehabilitation center. Needless to say, they went on to achieve fame at the highest level.
Next up at the concert was Grammy award band Inner Circle. With over 20 years of success, the group showed no sign of slowing down. Inner Circle has backed some of Jamaica greatest Reggae artist including the late great Jacob Miller. They came to the stage and gave the crowd a great performance. They continued entertaining the few thousands in the crowd before singing their big international hit song “Bad Boys”
Congratulations go out to Marcia Davis and her band. Marcia showed that when you believe you can achieve, don’t give up the fight, nothing can stop you. Marcia Davis brought lots of energy to the stage as she sang songs such as “Feeling Irie, Matrix and her hit song “Too much War” along with 1650. Overall, it was a great show, everyone walked out of the park signing and showing signs of happiness
