Congratulations to Jamaican sprinters Usain Bolt and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce World Athletes of the Year 2013. These awards were given by the International Association of Athletes Federation which was held in Monaco November 16, 2013. These awards could not have come at a better time as Jamaican Athletes are being scrutinized for its drug testing policy by the World Anti-doping Commission. It appears that Jamaica is been targeted in the testing in comparisons to other countries. As early as last week, Shelly-Ann threatens to boycott upcoming International events unless Jamaica show support for their athletes. Ms Fraser-Pryce went on to say these allegations were “hurtful” and that “We believe that we deserve to not have our names tarnished “, she said.
Usain Bolt who is the winner of the World Athlete of the Year for the second year in a row earned the award by winning the same medals in Moscow as Shelly-Ann and became the most successful athlete with a total of eight gold medals and two silver in that championship game. This accomplishment goes hand in hand with Usain’s Olympic World Records.
As Jamaica and Jamaicans celebrates both Usain and Shelly-Ann’s World Athlete of the Year 2013 awards, Jamaica is the second country behind the British in 1993 to have two athletes to win this award in the same year. Congratulations to Sports Man of the year Usain “Lighting” Bolt and Sports woman of the year Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce on winning World Athlete of the Year 2013. Both Ms Fraser-Pryce and Mr. Bolt received a check for $100,000. Finally congratulations to Usain Bolt on the release of his latest book, “Faster than Lightning: My Autobiography”.
