Jamaica is sitting on a goldmine, but they are too slow to act on it! Sure, gold don’t spoil, but
is it about time to open the door while the opportunity has been knocking. In a bad global economy, what better time than now to take advantage of the brand, “Bob Marley.” Jamaica, like so most families maybe too close to the brand to truly appreciate and recognize the economic impact Bob Marley can have on Jamaica’s economy? Is Jamaica taking Bob Marley for granted far too long while the world is capitalizing on Bob Marley the brand?
Sure, the Jamaica tourist board has been planning but it’s time to act. They use Bob Marley’s “One Love” song to promote Jamaica and its working but when the tourist comes to Jamaica, the tourist board don’t fully capitalize on the product. It’s time to make Bob Marley’s world a high priority. Bob Marley’s birthplace in St. Ann and the Bob Marley village should be in full effect 10+ years now. The streets should be lined with billboards as tourist exits both airports reminding them to visit Bob Marley’s Museum and village. These Billboards should be along these lines:
“Visit Bob Marley’s Birth in the Parish St. Ann.”
“Don’t forget to visit Bob Marley’s Museum.”
“You are Parish St. Ann; visit Bob Marley’s village.”
Meanwhile, the world is raving about, “how great thou are.” People around the world continue to used Jamaica and Bob Marley’s name in the same breath. Jamaica should be doing a lot more to capitalize on this icon in the global stage a lot faster. There is businessman in the state of Alabama USA, who is working on a project to invest US$1 million in a 680-seat restaurant on 13,000 square foot space. Can anyone guest what the name of this restaurant will be? Yes, you guess it, “Bob Marley Restaurant.”
The timing for Jamaica could not be better, “Brand Jamaica”, is everywhere, worldwide and the opportunity has been knocking. Yes, Its Jamaica’s 50th anniversary and the country came a long way and hopefully, many lessons were learned. But it’s time to take advantage of the obvious. Sure Jamaica
should exhaust their entire creative wheel on new ideas. But they must take advantage of the obvious, tourist is one of the main sources of income and the world has a love fest with Bob Marley. The economy is in need of a jump start and one of the immediate forecasts should be to take full advantage of Bob Marley’s goldmine. The world can imitate but they can’t duplicate his homeland, Jamaica.
