Jamaica Consul General Herman LaMont on Jamaica’s 50th. Jamaica’s 50th Anniversary of Independence fast approach on August 06, 2012. The annual service of thanksgiving was held at the prestigious Riverside Church in New York City on July 29, 2012. Jamaicans turned out in record numbers, along with some US elected officials. This includes members from Caricom and ambassadors from Haiti and Greece

Appointed

Newly appointed Jamaica Consul General Herman LaMont. He is responsibilities many states in total includes New York along with Bermuda and Puerto Rico. In addition, Mr. LaMont passed on a few messages of encouragement form Jamaica’s Prime Minister the Most Hon. Portia Simpson-Miller.  The Hon.  Portia Simpson-Miller was the 7th Prime Minister of Jamaica.  She was Jamaica’s first female Prime Minster.  

Bishop

The guest preacher Bishop Howard Gregory, who is from the Anglican Bishop of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. He was ordained as a deacon in 1973 and a priest in 1974. He held many titles including chaplain at the University of the West Indies.   They talked about some real statistics in Jamaica from 1962 to present. All in all, folks walked away feeling proud to be Jamaican and friends of Jamaica.

Diaspora

The Consul General Mr. Herman LaMont is ready willing and able to help the people in the Diaspora.
He will listen and understand their need and work towards a common goal. Having a Consul General is always help when the peoples in the Diaspora are not sure of certain of things. The consulate office is the first place to start when you are not sure of what you need to do. You can go there to check on your visa, travel document and more.  The Counsel General will always greet you with a smile.
