Mud Bath Massage and Pimento Oil Massage in Bath St. Thomas
Visitors at fountain Bath, St. Thomas
Over the years, many people have discovered and visited the mineral fountain bath. The mineral bath is hidden in the hills of St. Thomas on the mountain side. People from all around the world come to St. Thomas to enjoy the natural hot spring water pumping out the ground. In fact, the Travel Channel in the USA did a story on Bath, St. Thomas which featured Rasta Steve doing his massage
To enjoy this magical and mysterious hot mineral fountain bath, you too can visit Bath. The truth is that the area is not well kept, the path to the fountain bath is not paved, and it’s a 100 yard hike. But if you are the outdoor adventurous type, and looking to heal some aches and pain, Bath St. Thomas is waiting for you.
Indoor Bath Hotel at Bath St. Thomas
There is an indoor mineral bath where you can soak the body in the privacy of your own room at the same location in St. Thomas. The water is piped down in the rooms so you do have a choice of going indoors or going to the actual fountain bath as AJE (A Jamaica Experience) folks did. The obvious difference is that the water temperature is hotter at the outdoor bath. This does not mean the water is not hot at the bath hotel. Naturally, in the Hotel at Bath St. Thomas, a few degrees of the water temperature will be lost.
The simple fact that there is a pipe setup from the hot spring fountain water coming out the ground and taking the water to the hotel sure you are going to lose a few degree but the water is still hot. One must choose, do I want to take my mineral bath out side or do I want the privacy of a room, you can be the judge.
If the outdoors is for you, and you are planning to take a trip to Bath St. Thomas, schedule an appointment with Rasta Steve and or Fiah Lion. There are also lots of other self employed individual who are waiting to provide that service. They are ready willing and able to take you to the fountain bath as Steve and Fiah Lion have been doing for many years. AJE met with Rasta Steve and Fiah Lion after driving up the path/road up to the bath. Once we arrived at the Bath area to park, it’s located directly in front of the Bath Hotel entrance gate. There you will see a number of self employed individuals willing to provide there service for hire. Yes, they are hoping you will hire them.
Bath St. Thomas Not Government Regulated.
It’s very important to know that this business is not regulated by the government or is it run by one individual. You ask, what i’m I saying? I am saying that there are no set prices. It’s Capitalism, some business people will charge more than others, you will need to bargain, yes negotiate. If you are going to Bath with some local family or friends let them take the lead and do the bargaining. If you are using a personal tour guide by the time your reach Bath St. Thomas, you will already built up a relationship, tell him how much you want to pay and he will help you with the negotiation
Negotiate Your Price.
To negotiate, start within these framework to reach a price. At the end of 2015, the Jamaica Exchange Rate for £1 Great Britain Pound is about $175 Jamaican Dollar and $1 United States Dollar is about $119 Jamaican Dollar. AJE pricing negotiation suggestion range is about £15 – £20 and $20 – $25 per person massage. Naturally, prices will always varies with group rate. So, you are telling these business people what kind of massage you would like.
These massages can include anything from a mud bath massage, a rub down in pimento oil massage, a plain massage or any combination. You are on vacation, live it up. While these suggested prices are meant to lay out a framework, in no way are we suggesting are saying that’s their Price. Again, Jamaica is a free trade, free market country and the people in the massage business are working and feeding their family. Like any other business, negotiate and reach a mutual agreement. The price maybe a little more than the suggested rate. Once you are there, you will reach an agreement with one of these men or women.
No Welcome Sign in Bath St. Thomas.
Now it’s time take the 100 yards hike along the mysterious mountain side to get to the fountain bath. When you arrive at the fountain bath, there are no signs saying, “Welcome to the fountain bath.” There are no welcoming committee, no tables and chairs. I will say to the ladies, have your swimsuit already on underneath a shorts / skirts. Gentlemen, same goes, swimming trunks underneath shorts. Again, St. Thomas Bath is not regulated by the government at this time and there are no committee overseeing the the business aspect of it all. What you will see are other people such as yourself getting their mineral bath treatment and looking refreshed and rejuvenated.
Rasta Steve and Fiah Lion and Other Business People.
Rasta Steve will instruct you on what to do. He will soak you in the hot mineral water while massaging the muscles and rubbing you down with his mineral oil pimento seed with cinnamon and oil spices. Rasta Steve massage includes a prayer and plenty blessings. A mineral bath can be the perfect complement to your island visit. We made our connection with these business people and were satisfied with our results. However, there are other folks who i’m sure will do a great job just as well. Like any business dealings, reach a mutual agreement before starting any arrangement. Enjoy Bath St. Thomas and your fabulous vacation.

I went their and it was one of the greatest experiences of my life.. I tried both the fountain and private room and I dont regret one bit of it.. I must warn you though.. The water is hot..
Thanks for the visit, Totally agree, I can’t get enough of the natural hot spring water. Always leave feeling rejuvenated.
My husband is paralyzed on the right and can walk short distances with a walker. We are in Montego Bay and have been to the Bath in Clarendon. We want to visit the one in St Thomas on Thursday April 13 or 14. 2017. Would he be able to hike or do you think it is best to do the in room bath? Are the guys available on Good Friday?
Earlene
Hi Earlene,
I believe the indoors bath would be much easier to get to. It’s the same natural spring mineral water just a few degrees warmer. I do believe the walk could be a bit much. Much blessings to you and your husband. Staying active is the best path to a brighter future. Best of luck to the family.

HI IS THERE A PACKAGE FEE THAT WE CAN PAY IF WE WANT TO VISIT AS A GROUP?
IF YES WHATS THE COST?
IF NO WHATS THE COST PER INDIVIDUAL ?
Hi Peta,
Thanks for the visit.
Your package fee will be based on your negotiation skills. It comes down to what you are willing to pay. After knowing what you are willing to pay, if you go with a local let them negotiate.
If the massage includes pimento oil rub down you can add a few dollars to you bottom line.
For example when you pull up to the parking location, there are multiple persons who does the massage. If you can’t reach an agreement with the first person, go with the second and so fourth.
A quick break down of the currency exchange.
US $20 = JMD $2500 & US $25 = JMD $3200
So its what you are willing to Pay, if you think US $30 or US $35 dollars is fair then multiple by the total people and subtract the price of one person and that’s your group rate.
Hope this was helpful.

I visited the bath fountain in Febuary of 2018 … A very terrifying experience, About 7 guys threatened my husband and I on top of the hill going back after the massage and demanded $90 US dollars. They were very angry when we decided to give them $8,000 Jamaican dollars (~$70 US). They threatened our driver and followed us out in motorcycles in s threatening manner. This area is taken over by Thugs! They were also smoking and blowing Ganja (marijuana) in people’s faces. The river was dirty and the hill going there muddy. The place is run down, I would advise people to stay away! It is not worth your safety. There are better places to go in Jamaica. The Jamaican government should shut this hell hole down! The streets going there had nothing but pot holes! Everyone beware! Stay away!
Hi Ada, We are sorry to hear of your frightening experience and at the same time happy that everything turned out well. We continue to encourage persons to negotiate before getting their massage. Below are excerpt taken from this article.
“The truth is that the area is not well kept, the path to the fountain bath is not paved, and it’s a 100 yard hike. It’s very important to know that this business is not regulated by the government or is it run by one individual. You ask, what I’m I saying? I am saying that there are no set prices. But you must negotiate a price before getting “ANY SERVICE, ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD” and if you are not satisfied go to the next person.
Jamaica has been getting more than its fair share of rain since October 2017. I am not surprise to hear that the hill going to the bath was muddy. The path to the fountain is not paved. Ganja smoking, let’s add that into the negotiation “If you are going to smoke while doing my massage, I can’t use your service”.
Pot holes continue to be ridiculous on many of the country roads in Jamaica. Unfortunately, I experience pot holes in US, Canada & the UK. I recently visited Barbados and Grenada in the middle of 2017 and saw similar problems and for sure, there is work that needs to be done. In fact, our team, AJamaica Experience visited the birth place of Bob Marley in Nine Mile, St. Ann back in November 2017. The road getting there was horrible and the Ganja smoking, yes some will say its Jamaica’s identity. Finally folks, there is still the indoor fountain bath if you are not comfortable outside. No one should feel threaten trying to have a good time regardless of the situation. Thanks for the visit to our site
Well I really enjoyed studying it. This tip offered by you is very useful for accurate planning.
Great article. Thnx for sharing.
Itreally a cool and useful piece of info. I am glad that you shared this useful info with us. Please keep us up to date like this. Thanks for sharing.
I visited there on October 28,2018 and as soon as my friends and I got out of the car the guys started to harass us. It was pure harassment even after we paid them $4,000 for their services for each of us. Four of us went there. I would not recommend anyone who is easily intimidated to go there.
What I will like to no what is the price to get a Massage there
Hey Ms. Barrett,
Please check the article and a few of the comments, it’s discussed in details. The price varies and it’s negotiable. Plus it all depends on who is providing the service. One thing I would say is consistent, “Let the Jamaican family, friend or driver do the negotiation”, when possible.
Where can I find out more details regarding the bath hotel and it’s facilities
