Queen Nanny Legendary Maroon, Jamaica First National Hero. Nanny of the Maroon or Granny Nanny as she is called is the only female National Hero of Jamaica. She was given the title “Order of National Hero.” She was born in Ghana, West Africa.

Queen Nanny Of the Maroon

Granny Nanny came from the Ashanti Nation and belonged to the Akan people. She worked in the Parish of Saint Thomas on a plantation. Where she became a legend in Jamaica after fighting two wars with the British and winning both wars.

The Ashanti Tribe from Ghana is where her fighting spirit came from. The resistance to Europeans in West Africa is where they developed their warrior tactics.

Nanny of the Maroon Town in the Hills of Portland

 Queen Nanny and the Maroons lived in Nanny Town in Portland Jamaica. Which is located on top of the mountain ridge. The Maroons were ready for an attack by the British. Even though they had superior weapons, the Maroons were much more effective in fighting.

The mountain ridge became known as The Blue and John Crow Mountain. As of July 3, 2015, Blue and John Crow Mountain was added to the list of UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization). When your part of a World Heritage Site which shows it possesses cultural and natural significance.

Director Roy T Anderson has brought the Queen Nanny story to light in this compelling documentary “Queen Nanny Legendary Maroon. Legendary Maroon Chieftainess. The Legendary Maroons World Premiere on Monday, October 19, 2015, at the United Nations (ECOSOC Chamber) in New York.  Jamaica’s only female National Heroine documentary talked about the life of an African warrior Queen in the mountains. She led her people to victory over the mighty British Army.

Hollywood stuntman and award-winning filmmaker Roy T. Anderson and his blockbuster project was introduced in a one-hour documentary film. Legendary Maroon Chieftainess to the world. The documentary took two years to complete. During that period, they visited Jamaica, Ghana, Canada, and the United States.  Mr. Anderson and his associates gave life to the history and mystery of Queen Nanny’s legacy. The excitement is building for the World Premiere at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City.
