Jamaican Track and Field Superstar Usain Bolt faced his first defeat on Thursday August 28, 2015. No, it was not by the feet of American track star Justin Gatlin. Who tweeted before the race about “…break sound barrier…” or Tyson Gay. As you wonder who could it be, it was none other than a Chinese TV cameraman. This story unfolded right after the 2015 IAAF World Championships 200m race in Beijing. Jamaican sprinter Usain St. Leo Bolt just defeated American Justin Gatlin as they say in Jamaica “good and proper”.
Usain finished the 200m race with a time of 19.56 while Gatlin manage a time of 19.74. This race came a few days after Usain Lighting Bolt jolted Gatlin by beating him in the 100m men’s final. Now in the 200m final another highly anticipated race and recent questions surrounding Bolt of Jamaica and Gatlin of America. Especially after Gatlin’s last race and the anticipation of this race against Bolt. As Bolt tweeted, “They say it couldn’t be done”. But my peeps even when they tell you that all the odds are against you never give up. Fight on and keep believing in your Go d ability.” Bolt ran a brilliant race and captured yet another title in the city that loved him very much, Beijing, China.
After the victory, Bolt was taking his signature barefoot victory lap. During Bolt’s victory lap, a Chinese Cameraman sideswipes Usain while riding on a motorized two-wheel scooter. Usain fell to the ground. As sports fans around the world heart skipped a beat in fear of injury. Some Jamaicans cried out conspiracy while Bolt’s camp saw their gold mine flash before their eyes. Bolt on the other hand was not down for long. He did a complete flip and was back on his feet wondering, what just happen.
This cameraman was wrong on many levels. He clearly had no business riding a motorized scooter while operation a camera on the track. In this 21st-century sports arena and with the advancement in Technologies, we can only hope for what’s next. Meanwhile, Usain Lighting Bolt, the country man from Trelawney Jamaica, took it in stride and said, “I am fine. I have a few cuts.” Bolt was defeated by A Chinese cameraman, not an American.
