The stage is set for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The day was Sunday August 14, 2016. The prize is getting the title as the fastest sprinter in the world. All the athletes who qualified for the 100m track championship race was entered in the record book. The 100m marquee event is on the line and the runners are ready.

The Public opinion polls were out, and Usain Bolt was the worldwide favorite to win the race. For the 100m race, Usain Bolt is the fan favorite. He is matchup against fellow countryman Yohan Blake and USA Justin Gatlin. For Bolt, history is on the line. He was hoping to repeat as Olympic 100m champion for the 3rd consecutive time which had never been done. At 29 years old, this prolific performer has never loss in the Olympics. His success in track and field has given him ambassador status for Jamaica around the world. This is the same status achieved by Reggae Legend Bob Marley. In many instances, based on who you speak to, Bolt has surpassed the fame achieved by Bob Marley. Usain who has reached legendary status and fast becoming the face of Jamaica is now treading immortally. So far over his track and field career, Usain Bolt personal best record came in Berlin in 2009. He ran world record times in both the 100m and 200m race. His times were 9.58 seconds in the 100m and 19.19 seconds in the 200m. Although, Bolt won the 100m and 200m Gold Medals in Beijing China is wasn’t world record time. Now the “Fastest man in the World” gave new meaning to his nickname “Lightning Bolt”.

As we fast forward to London 2012 Olympic, Usain “Lighting” Bolt entered the games knowing that the world was watching his every move. His fellow Olympians were in amazement to be in Bolt’s company. As he moved around Olympic Village, the atmosphere was rocking and Usain was rolling. At times, the other Jamaican Athletes had to block and play security for Bolt to slow down the selfie photos from the other Olympians. Bolt needed to stay focused in his bread and butter events which are the 100m, 200m and 4X100m races. However, when Bolt got on the track it was “No worries”, he was all business. For the second time in as many Olympic, “Lighting Bolt” dominated in all his events.  Usain closed out the 2012 London Olympic by winning his sixth Olympic gold medal.

2016 in Rio de Janeiro Games

Now it’s 2016 in Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games and Usain Bolt is on the verge of immortal status. As Bolt got in race stance, the gun fired, and Bolt was on his way to repeat as 100m champion. As the runners crossed the finish line, it was Usain Bolt first, Justin Gatlin second and Canadian runner Andre de Grasse third. After the win, Usain Bolt became the only runner in Olympic History to win gold medal in the 100m event three straight times. Bolt won the 100m title race with a time of 9.81 seconds. He did it with a prolific push that powered him to victory. This champion title push Bolt to Superstar status. He is the greatest 100m sprinter in track and field history.

When the race was all over, the great showman gave the fans what they wanted. Bolt gave them his famous arching pose which he launched eight years ago. As Bolt did his signature pose to the world, you could hear the chant of “Bolt, Bolt, Bolt” filling up the stadium. It was also reported that Bolt created chaos 5,000 miles away at JFK International Airport in NY, where travelers viewing the race while waiting to travel expressed a burst of jubilance shouting and jumping for joy after his 100m triumphant win. Other travelers not sure what was happening ran out of the airport fearing something terrible was happening, fortunately it was just lightning Bolt doing what he does best “winning”.
